(Senior) Group Accountant (hybrid)

Your role

Cloover is originating ~EUR 10m per month across five European markets — and the accounting function hasn't kept pace with that scale. You'll be the first dedicated accountant on the team, owning the full close cycle and building the infrastructure that bridges operational bookkeeping, group consolidation, and institutional-grade reporting. Success looks like a clean, predictable monthly close, intercompany reconciliations that don't require heroics, and an accounting setup that can support a EUR 300m+ origination business.


You'll report to the Finance Manager and work within a lean finance team. You'll collaborate directly with external advisors — DATEV, tax counsel, and auditors — as well as with the broader leadership team on reporting and compliance.

Your mission

Financial & Group Closings

  • Drive the monthly accounting close across Cloover entities — cut close time and improve predictability.
  • Own the books in DATEV. Improve structure so numbers flow cleanly into management, lender, and investor reporting.
  • Lead monthly and annual group consolidation (HGB & IFRS).
  • Prepare and maintain intercompany reconciliations and process intercompany transactions across German, Dutch, Swedish, Swiss, and other entities.
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Accounts Payable, Receivable & Complex Products

  • Own the AP and AR cycle, including invoice reconciliation and payment runs.
  • Partner with the finance team on how revenue, funding costs, and receivables should be booked for Cloover's core financing products and associated structures.

VAT & Compliance

  • Own VAT-related topics (domestic & international) in collaboration with external tax advisors.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international reporting and compliance requirements.

External Stakeholders & Systems

  • Act as primary interface with DATEV, tax advisors, and auditors.
  • Optimize accounting processes in close collaboration with external advisors and auditors.
  • Contribute to the ERP selection and roll-out that will replace the current DATEV-only setup.
  • Drive the further development and automation of financial processes.

Your profile

We care more about how you think and what you've built than where you've been. Here's what will set you up for success in this role:

  • Qualified accountant (Steuerfachangestellte/r, Bilanzbuchhalter/in, or equivalent degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance) with 3–7 years of professional experience in accounting or auditing.
  • Able to navigate a multi-entity, multi-currency close with confidence — you've done intercompany reconciliations before and know where the complexity hides.
  • Solid command of HGB with working comfort around IFRS — you can operate across both frameworks without needing hand-holding.
  • Identifies what's broken in an accounting setup and fixes it without waiting to be asked — you're building the function as much as running it.
  • Fully proficient in German and English (C2 in both) — the finance team operates in English; external accounting work is predominantly in German.
  • Based in Berlin, with the flexibility to split your time between the office and home. We're in the office regularly — it's where decisions get made and ideas get pressure-tested — but we trust you to manage your time and presence.

Nice to have (but not required):

  • Experience with securitisation, SPVs, or structured finance accounting — Cloover's funding structures involve committed debt facilities and receivables, so prior exposure shortens the ramp.
  • Hands-on involvement in an ERP migration or accounting function scale-up, where process design mattered as much as execution.
